Thought for the day
St Joseph the Worker’s Day
“Then Joseph got up, took the child and his mother by night, and went to Egypt, and remained there until the death of Herod.” Matthew 2.14“Then Joseph got up, took the child and his mother, and went to the land of Israel.” Matthew 2.21
As I was praying about this little message before the icon of Jesus in Bishop’s House Chapel, I had a great sense of Jesus’ love for Joseph, his adoptive father. For Joseph’s openness to God, and his readiness to change course as the Lord led. For Joseph’s deep practical wisdom. He took action and came to solutions, responding to the surprising action of God (Mary conceiving a child) as well as to the dangerous events of the world around him (Herod pursuing the child).
I had a great sense of Jesus’ love for all of us. For the way we’re trying to keep our eyes trained on the changing events around us as the world faces great dangers. For the way we’re keeping our ears open to God’s guidance to us so that we respond well.
Let’s pray that for the heart of Joseph – a heart obedient to God, full of love for Jesus, full of determination to serve God in whatever situation we face. And let’s know that Jesus loves us.
