Thought for the Day 14th July 2020

Today’s thought in our series about rest, sleep and the Psalms

In peace I will lie down and sleep,

for you alone, Lord, make me to dwell in safety.   Psalm 4:8

The only source of lasting peace is God.  Part of that peace is our understanding of God’s care for us. We are “safe” no matter what our circumstances. We are surrounded with God’s love.

As we meditate on this verse, we can ask God to help us see life from his perspective.  A similar verse, (Job 11:18)  tells us “You will be secure, because there is hope; you will look about you and take your rest in safety.”

The hope we have in the Lord brings us security and safety, and that affects how we sleep.
